According to the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "must figure out whether the appraisal or evaluation is suitable for the transaction, the uncertainty of the transaction, and whether the method by which the collateral valuation is collected ensures independence and quality." They "must also announce whether the appraisal or evaluation report matches the engagement letter, which gives an account of the capacity of the appraisal assignment." Last, The Federal Reserve states that "some institutions supplement regular reviews with post-funding surveys of appraisal quality for a number of their higher-risk or greater-value affairs as a channel to help in addressing valuation issues."
